FAQs

High Physical Support is one of four SDA design categories. It’s the most comprehensive home design which includes features and structural elements to support participants with higher physical needs. This category is ideal if you need extra support with daily activities and require specialised equipment to help you and your supports complete tasks safely and effectively.

  • Participants with extreme functional impairment or very high physical support needs.
  • Eligibility is determined by the NDIA as part of your approved plan.
  • Your NDIS plan must include Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) funding.
  • This NDIS will assess your needs and allocate the most suitable design category — High Physical Support, Fully Accessible, Improved Liveability or Robust.
  • Eligibility is based on individual requirements, goals and level of daily support needed.

Most of our High Physical Support (HPS) homes follow the 24/7 shared onsite support model, while some may allow you to use your own support through Individualised Living Options (ILO).

Withe Enliven’s HPS homes, you can benefit from:

  • Optimised support, with most of our homes following the 24/7 Shared Onsite Support (SOS) model.
  • Coordination with your Allied Health Providers
  • Technology-enabled communication and monitoring systems such as intercom.

Some conditions and disabilities that are often associated with high support needs include:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
  • Muscular Dystrophy
  • Motor Neurone Disease (MND)
  • Huntington’s Disease
  • Acquired Brain Injuries (ABI)
  • Progressice neurological or degenarative conditions

Eligibility is based on the level of functional support required, not just the medical diagnosis.

Each participant’s needs are assessed individually through the NDIS planning process to determine if HPS is the most appropriate category.

  • The NDIS funds the physical component of your Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), the ‘bricks and mortar’.
  • As a tenant, you’ll contribute a Reasonable Rent Contribution (RRC), which is your share of the cost.
  • Your RRC is made up of 25% of your Disability Support Pension (or equivalent), plus 100% of your Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA)
  • This contribution goes directly to Enliven to help cover rent and maintenance. You’ll still be responsible for your day-to-day living expenses like groceries, utilities and personal supports.
  • At Enliven, we can assist you through the funding requirements and guide you through your eligibility and application steps before you apply.
